Introduction to the Department of Gastroenterology

The Department of Gastroenterology of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine is a key discipline of both Our Hospital and Yiwu. It currently is engaged in diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal endoscope, endoscopic ultrasonography, bile pancreatic endoscopic and esophageal gastrointestinal motility and other frequently-occurring diseases in the field of gastroenterology.

There’s a well-structured talent pool formed by 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians, 5 attending physicians and 8 resident physicians. Meanwhile, the Hospital boasts sophisticated equipment such as Olympus290, Fuji host and endoscope, a variety of gastrointestinal endoscopes, ultrasonic endoscope, duodenoscope, ERCP X-ray instrument, SpyGlass choledochoscope system, Hybrid Knife system and manoscan gastrointestinal motility detection system. Owing to a strong technical force, the Department is skilled at diagnosing and treating digestive system emergency and severe diseases, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of benign gastrointestinal lesions and early tumor, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of biliary-pancreatic diseases, gastroesophageal motility monitoring and PH monitoring.

Main research topics covered: diagnosis and treatment of digestive system emergency and severe diseases, motility monitoring of gastroesophageal reflux disease and research on its molecular mechanism, clinical and fundamental research on early cancer of alimentary canal, diagnosis and treatment of biliary-pancreatic system as well as standardized diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases.

The Department now is involved in 6 research topics at state and provincial level, and has hosted 2 provincial/ municipal academic conferences. In addition, 9 of its academic papers have been published on international and core journals.

1. Diagnosis and treatment of digestive system emergency and severe diseases, including alimentary tract hemorrhage, acute cholangitis and acute pancreatitis; 2. early cancer of alimentary canal, precancerous lesions and other endoscopic diagnosis and treatment; 3. endoscopic ultrasonography of bile pancreatic diseases and ERCP diagnosis and treatment; 4. endoscopic ultrasonography of digestive system diseases; 5. gastroesophageal motility monitoring and PH monitoring; 6. diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases.
