Introduction to the Department of Hematology

The Department of Nutrition of The Fourth Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine, of which Chief Physician ZHANG Aizhen is the academic leader, is now home to 5 staff members, among whom one holds the senior tile and one holds the middle title. Our department is mainly in charge of nutrition counseling clinic, diet recipes for all inpatients in the hospital, clinical nutrition consultation, nutritional education, MEC body composition examination, AI personalized and precise nutrition intervention and clinical nutrition research, etc. Several specialized clinics have been opened like expert and general nutrition counseling clinic, united clinic of diabetes, pediatric nutrition clinic and nutrition & beauty clinic.


Introduction to the Department features

(1) The department provides nutrition counseling clinic for healthy population of infants, children, adolescents, pregnant women, nursing mothers and the elderly. It insists on personalized and humanistic dietary nutrition assessment and counseling, and is dedicated to promoting balanced diet and reasonable nutrition.

(2) For sub healthy population who has clinical manifestations but no need to see a doctor, the department insists on improving the sub-health and preventing chronic diseases by starting with clinical syndromes and giving reasonable assessment and nutrition prevention in combination with diet characteristics.

(3) Nutrition consultation clinic is opened for patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension, overweight and obesity, emaciation, dyslipidemia, diabetes, gout, osteoporosis, chronic gastritis and chronic nephrosis. For them, the department insists on scientific and reasonable adjustment of patients’ diet based on relevant scientific evaluation and patients’ preferences and customs, striving to improve and alleviate symptoms, reduce drug dose and adverse reactions, and prevent or delay complications.

(4) The department electively provides the general public with nutrition and health education on the “world days of diseases”, and disseminates nutrition knowledge periodically on such media platforms as TV, newspapers and WeChat public account and occasionally in communities and school districts, for the purpose of pushing the idea of balanced diet and rational nutrition, actively preventing lifestyle diseases, effectively promoting human health and reducing and preventing chronic diseases.

(5) The department offers inpatients nutritional risk screening service and timely holds nutrition consultations for patients with potential nutritional risks. In addition, reasonable enteral and parenteral nutrition support is given and special medical food is rationally consumed to accelerate the recovery of patients.

(6) The department does a good job in nutrition consultation by adhering to teaching and simulation education of diet models, personalized and humanistic communication and smiling service. By doing so, it enables patients to consciously accept and apply nutrition knowledge in life. It still strives to prevent the occurrence of chronic diseases and delay relevant complications so as to make patients enjoy a long life despite the diseases and to improve their quality of life.

(7) The department actively develops the sustainable development platform of “providing nutrition education to people for nationwide health” and keep on looking for companions to jointly study the subject of “nutrition and health” series to better serve common people in respect of health.

(8) The department makes precise nutrition intervention for patients with such chronic diseases as malnutrition and nutritional imbalance and advanced cancer rehabilitation patients to promote their early rehabilitation and improve their quality of life.
