The Department of Pathology of The
Fourth Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine, formed with
support of the Department of Pathology of The First Affiliated Hospital,
Zhejiang University –National Key Specialty Development Unit, is a member of
the Clinical Pathology Specialist Alliance of The First Affiliated Hospital,
Zhejiang University and Yiwu City Pathology Quality Control Center. For the
moment, the department is home to 14 staff members, including 7 pathologists (1
senior attending physician, 2 attending physicians and 4 other pathologists who
are accepting standard training in Hangzhou), 7 pathology technicians (3 senior
technicians, 3 junior technicians and 1 technician). All the physicians are with
master’s degree or above. Academic leader TENG Xiaodong, the Director of the Department
of Pathology of The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University and Chairman
of Pathology Branch of Zhejiang Medical Association, has led the pathologists
of The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University to come to our department
for consultation on difficult cases at a regular basis. So far, the department
has provided routine histopathological examination, cytology
pathological diagnosis, intra-operative rapid frozen section diagnosis, etc.,
and also applied immunohistochemistry,
special staining, molecular pathological detection and other techniques. It is a
pathology department that offers the most comprehensive pathological
examinations in the central Zhejiang Province.
Introduction to the Department features
(1) Consultation on
difficult cases: Inviting pathologists
from The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University to hold consultation
every week to solve difficult cases in all aspects and save patients’ energies.
(2) Molecular pathological detection: The
only unit that carries out molecular pathological detection. It now has applied
the in situ hybridization(ISH) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)
techniques and is about to provide molecular detection of other items
successively to meet the needs of various clinical departments.
(3) Advanced
equipment: The department boasts a full set of the advanced pathology
equipments including Freezing Microtome, Embedding Cassette Printer, Slice Printer,
Automatic Dewatering Machine, Automatic Stainer, Automatic Sealing Machine, Automatic
Immuno-Histo Stainer, Automatic FISH Stainer, Fluorescence Microscope, etc., providing
a solid support to the department’s smooth development of various detecting techniques.
(4) Informatization
management: Since the opening of the hospital, the department has introduced a
complete set of informatization management system. The informatization management
of all processes and links within the department has guaranteed the accuracy
and timeliness of pathological diagnosis.
